Who we are

My Recipe Closet, reachable at support@myrecipecloset.com.

What we collect

Your email address and password, handled by Supabase Auth. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address from them, plus your name and a link to your profile photo when they provide them. We save that name as your display name and that link as your avatar. If no name arrives, your display name is the part of your email address before the @. Everything you save in the app: recipes and their earlier versions, recipe photos you upload, cookbooks, meal plans and templates, shopping lists, pantry items, recipe categories, and cooking logs including ratings and notes. Your settings: meal slots, shopping aisles, cookbook presets, app and notification preferences, and the names of households you create. Your household membership and role if you share an account group with other people. If you turn on meal reminders in the iPhone or Android app, a push token for your device and your device's user agent, a short text that names its operating system, browser version and often its device model. Your subscription status and trial dates. A daily count of your recipe imports, used to apply the daily import limit.

What we do not collect

We never see or store your payment card details. We do not collect your location, your contacts, or health data. We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics.

Who processes your data

Supabase stores the database, authentication and uploaded images, hosted in the United States. Vercel hosts and serves the application, and its server logs record your IP address. Paddle handles payments made on the web as Merchant of Record. When you start a checkout it receives your email address and account identifier, and it holds your billing information. In the iPhone and iPad apps, RevenueCat manages in-app subscriptions and receives your account identifier and purchase status. The Android app also passes your account identifier to RevenueCat when you open the subscription screen. On iPhone and iPad, Apple processes the payment. Resend delivers the emails we send you, such as confirming you joined a household or telling you your role in one changed. Google Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers push notifications to your device. Google Gemini processes recipe content for the AI features described below. Google Fonts serves the app's typefaces, so your device requests them from Google, which sees your IP address.

Importing recipes

When you import from a link, our server fetches that page to read the recipe. For Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest links, our server also asks that site's public embed service for the post's caption, author and cover image. These requests carry only the link you gave us. They come from our server, not your device, and include no account details or other personal data. If an imported recipe keeps a photo hosted on the original site, your device loads that photo from the site when you view the recipe, so that site sees your IP address.

AI processing

We send content to Google Gemini in four places. Import: the link you paste, the page content and post details we fetch for it, any notes you type, and any screenshot, photo or PDF you upload, so the title, ingredients, steps and photo can be pulled out. Ask My Recipe Closet, on the recipes page: what you type, plus a summary of up to 200 recipes you can see, including recipes shared with your household. Each summary holds the recipe's ID, title, cuisine, time, calories, dietary labels, tags and up to 25 ingredient names. Cooking timeline in the meal planner: the titles, times and steps of the 2 to 5 recipes you pick. Suggest tags & labels on a recipe: that recipe's title, ingredients and steps. We do not send your name, email address or account identifier to Gemini. We use a paid Google plan, under which Google does not use what you submit, or what Gemini returns, to train or improve its models.

Sharing

Members of a household you join see the recipes, lists, pantry items and plans shared with that household. When another member uses Ask My Recipe Closet, recipes you shared with the household are among those sent to Google Gemini. If you are an owner or admin and change a member's role, the email to that member shows your display name. Public share links you create are unlisted URLs, and you can protect any of them with a password. Nothing you save is public unless you create a share link. We do not sell your data.

Your choices

Export your recipes at any time as JSON or CSV, from Import / Export in Settings or from the Account page. The export covers recipes only. Choose which household emails reach you under Contact preferences on the Account page. Turn meal reminders off in Meal planner settings. This stops the app registering your device for push notifications, but a push token already saved stays until you delete your account, unless a notification to that device fails and we remove it. Delete your account permanently from the Account page.

Deleting your account

Deleting your account removes the photos you uploaded, then your account. That removes your profile, recipes and their earlier versions, cookbooks, meal plans and templates, shopping lists, pantry items, categories, cooking logs, share links, push tokens, preferences and subscription records from our database. If you created a household, that household is deleted and every member loses access to it. The other members keep their own recipes, lists and other items, but these are no longer shared. Items they added to your shopping lists are deleted with those lists. If you joined a household someone else created, each shopping list you shared with it passes, with its name, to the person who created the household, so the other members' items on it are kept. Your own items on that list are deleted. In both cases, other members' meal plan entries, meal plan template entries, cooking logs and cookbook entries for your recipes are deleted with your recipes. Deleting your account ends a web subscription immediately. We do not refund the unused part of the period, except as our Terms describe or where the law requires it. If that cancellation fails, the account is not deleted. It cannot cancel an iPhone or iPad subscription, because Apple bills it. Cancel that one in your Apple account's subscription settings, or Apple keeps charging you.

Retention

We keep your data until you delete your account. Deletion removes it from our database and file storage straight away, except shared shopping lists that pass to a household creator as described above. Paddle, Apple and RevenueCat keep their own records of your purchases, and payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Copies can remain in our database provider's backups for a limited period until they are overwritten. Our email provider keeps its own delivery logs, and emails already delivered stay in your inbox. Those records are outside our control.
